make a straight vertical incision directly across from the section that faces the radio so it will be the least noticable. Start your cut from the bottom of the knob and only cut up enough to slip the leather off the knob. Once you are ready to put the leather back on you will need a strong epoxy. I recommend "Goop automotive contact adhesive and sealant". Comes in a red tube. Strong stuff. About a dime's worth has held the edge of my Kuruma Z spoiler which popped away from my hatch, flush with it for over 6 months now, through rain and shine.
Apply to underside of leather and smooth in place. Hold there for several minutes for it to set. Then let it sit overnight before using and you should be good to go. Good luck.
